Somebody explain why you are using ATRA, the CTCA,the extra license fee, the upgrade implications for USCF,etc. Seems like the Mellowdrome and Dick Lane are taking a step backwards. I've been to the ATRA web site and most of it is out of date of just missing. Why are you moving away from USCF? I live on the coast of NC and I rotate track racing in T-Town, Asheville and Atlanta. How is this going to effect upgrade points for USCF and t-town. Seems like it will make things more complicated for individuals like myself, who do not have a track in their backyard. I mean, if I lived in a bubble and only raced at one track, it really wouldn't matter. What do I get for my $25 CTCA license? Does CTCA have it's own web site? What about the different race categories at T-Town (cat 1-5) DL (Elite, expert, etc) and Mellodrome (a,b,c)? I have a ton of questions.
Regarding the license fee, over the course of a season this pays for itself because USAC charged $2.00 per entry fee for insurance. We have reduced race fees this year by two dollars. Over the season, the license fee is more economical (provided you race more than 12 times). If you only come once or twice a season, then perhaps a one day license will work better for you.
The CTCA has a website! It is ridectca.com. If you go to the old mellowdrome.com you will be redirected to ridectca.com. CTCA was formed as a non-profit corporation to provide better organization and support for our growing track community.
I hope you find this helpful. Sincerely, Nancy Lux, CTCA Treasurer
Thanks Nancy, BTW this is Pat Jacques (rode with Bob). I've already seen the info at fixedgear. I guess I understand the track perspective, cheaper insurance, easier forms. But I fail to see how this will benefit the racers. esp me, since I drive 6 hours to Ashville, 8 to DL and 9 to T-town and rotate through for different races. I'll admit I have limited experience track racing but "caught" the bug the end of 2006. I've been to the ATRA site and there is no info, most of the dates on the calendar are last year and it doesn't impress me from a racers standpoint. I honestly don't understand from a racers perspective the benefits, I actually have a headache trying to figure out what it means for me and how I will fit races into my schedule.
Patrick, To the journeyman racer, ATRA does not represent any substantive change. There is not a USAC/ATRA conflict. Go to races, track your results, submit upgrades.
To the promoter/organizer/operator of tracks, ATRA represents a flexibilty in liability insurance that USAC does not provide. On the FGF thread Pete lays it out pretty well. Each track exists in its own context. No dis on USAC, but the one size fits all approach that their permits have don't meet the needs of a majority of tracks in the USA.
As far as a step backwards, look at DLV over the past few years. Would you consider the increased racing, training, clinics, and community programing a step backwards? Of course that is mostly because of people willing to step-up, but the ease and flexibility of ATRA sure helps. Look for similar developments here.
It sucks when you have the track bug but live so far--that is the nature of track and anyone who has been involved in track for some time have dealt with it. So, race your bike as much as you can and don't worry about the sanctioning body. Your biggest stress will continue to be wondering if the weather will be good whenever you can make it. Best, George
hi, i am new to town. i stopped by the track last night and watched for a bit.... what do i need to do to get involved and start racing. i have no license of any sort this year my only racing experience has been in Charlotte at the Lowes Motor Speedway TT series (http://www.carolinatt.org) wich has a fixed gear catagory may i simply show up on kilo night pay and race?
THANK YOU...to all volunteers who have helped with the Mellowdrome Cup Series thus far.....

Without all of you, and future volunteers, we would be hard pressed to keep the track program running. Thank you.
Welcome to the Mellowdrome - all you need to do is hop over the fence (preferrably via the bridge)and come talk to us. I raced fixed at LMS for the last 3 years (Geoff Brace) and fell in love with the track a year ago having moved to the area. You will not find a more supportive group of cyclist that the Mellowdromers and we all enjoy bringing in new blood, teaching you the necessary track etiquitte (sic)and watching the smile on your face when you race. ATRA license is $25, day license $5, race night fees are $10 = $2 for your number which , if you remember to bring it, lasts all year. We boast National Champions, a World hour record holder and rank novices (myself included) in our ranks - come dip your toes and enjoy the cammorardorie which id the Mellowdrome. Who needs banking?!
thanks for the reply Geoff. i am eager to be "jumped in" when will be the next time anyone will be on the other side of the fence for me to talk to? and where will i purchase my ATRA license?
i apologize for my lack of knowing what is going on, i'm just a simple mountain biker looking for a new thrill. this seems more involved than showing up at a norba race and simply signing up for sport class racing
Please do come join the racing. More the Merrier at the Mellowdrome.
You may purchase your ATRA License at any Tuesday night racing, or you may download the application from the website and bring the application with payment to practice on Saturday. I will be there this Saturday 4.26.08 by 8:30am.

Saturday practices are the perfect time to ask questions, learn aboout racing and a good time to meet other trackies. Practice begins at 8am for teams and 9am for individuals.
The Mountain sports festival website says there is a track race on Friday and Saturday, is that correct? I missed last year and would like to make any events at the track this year.
For those of you that may have missed my link on the ABRC site, I'm posting the photos on line this year. The following link should take you there. retro

Madison racing will commence on 4.29.08
The racing was fun last night and I want to thank everyone that helped out. You guys did a great job!
Yes, definitely fun, I think I need a bigger gear huh? I heard something about results being posted? where will that be?
Thanks
We should have the results posted in the next couple of days on the site. We are just working on getting them into a format that will work well.
Looks like the omnium results for the C race are incorrect. Obusek should have 9, Simpson 15...
